Georgia-Pacific is now hiring an Electrical Technician to join our Lumber facility in Albany, GA!

Salary

  • Our starting pay is at $30-$38/hr, depending on experience.
  • You will have the ability to increase your compensation based on skills and contribution to the overall performance of the mill.

Shift

  • Only candidates who are flexible and available to work any shift will be considered. This will include overtime, holidays, and weekends as needed.
  • 12-hour rotating shift (rotates every 28 days)
  • The week of orientation will be 9:00am to 5:00pm Monday and 8:00am to 5:00pm Tuesday through Friday. Regular shift will be assigned after orientation.
  • Shift Hours: (6:00am to 6:00pm or 6:00pm to 6:00am)

What You Will Do

  • Adhere to all plant safety and environmental guidelines, policies, and procedures, actively participating in our safety program with a focus on OSHA and NFPA 70E compliance.
  • Perform reactive and preventative maintenance tasks on sawmill production electrical equipment including conveyors, debarkers, chippers, saws, kilns, and control systems.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain motors, drives, PLCs, control panels, and electrical distribution to ensure continuous, efficient production.
  • Read and interpret electrical and mechanical schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals related to sawmill operations.
  • Work closely with automation, production, and computer systems to support equipment start-up, shutdown, and troubleshooting.
  • Research parts and order electrical/mechanical supplies as needed.
  • Collaborate with operators and crew members to resolve equipment issues promptly and safely.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of all maintenance work, repairs, and updates to electrical drawings.
  • Participate in on-call rotations to respond to emergency breakdowns.
  • Demonstrate initiative by identifying and implementing process improvements to enhance equipment reliability and safety.

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • Experience with industrial controls including PLCs, motor controls, drives, and electrical distribution systems in a manufacturing or sawmill environment.
  • Experience with industrial instrumentation such as flow, pressure, and temperature measurement devices.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical schematics and blueprints.
  • One of the following:
    • Associate degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Systems, Instrumentation, or Electronic Technology AND at least two (2) years of electrical/electronic and/or instrument & control troubleshooting experience in a manufacturing environment.
    • Minimum of four (4) years of electrical/electronic or instrument & control troubleshooting experience in a manufacturing environment.
What Will Put You Ahead

  • Advanced proficiency in troubleshooting, programming, and maintaining Allen-Bradley PLCs, HMIs, and operator interfaces in complex industrial environments.
  • Extensive experience with motor controls, variable frequency drives (VFDs), soft starters, and control panel design and wiring.
  • Strong knowledge of industrial power distribution systems, including transformers, switchgear, and circuit breakers.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret complex electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and ladder logic.
  • Experience with integration and troubleshooting of automation systems including safety interlocks and emergency stop circuits.
  • Skilled in predictive and preventive maintenance techniques to improve equipment reliability and reduce downtime.
  • Familiarity with industrial communication protocols such as Ethernet/IP within Allen-Bradley environments.
  • Experience mentoring or training junior electricians and collaborating with multi-disciplinary maintenance teams.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA, NFPA 70E, and other applicable electrical safety standards and regulations.
  • Proficient with Computerized Maintenance Management Software (CMMS) to track work orders, preventive maintenance, and parts inventory.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks including climbing ladders and working at heights or in confined spaces.
  • Ability to work in a sawmill environment with dust, noise, heat, and cold conditions.
