Description
Bloomsbury is seeking an Editorial Assistant to provide editorial and administrative support to our successful publishing programs in Library and Information Services, Museum Studies, and Art History. Reporting to a Senior Executive Acquisitions Editor, the Editorial Assistant will work on a full range of scholarly publications (monographs, textbooks, reference works, professional titles, and crossover academic trade titles). The Editorial Assistant will support the Acquisitions Editor to achieve agreed revenue and profitability targets for the lists; will manage and deliver the agreed handover targets for the list; will liaise with key stakeholders, both internal and external; and will support colleagues within the department. This position provides an excellent opportunity to develop a career in academic publishing.
Key Responsibilities
All candidates must reside in the NY tri-state area and be able to commute to our NY headquarters on a hybrid-remote schedule.

Key Responsibilities
- Tracks proposal and manuscript submissions
- Keeps the publishing program on schedule through regular liaison with authors, and by maintaining and updating the frontlist plan for the year
- Coordinates with contract department on terms. Sets up new titles on in-house databases, and ensures that any changes to projects are updated promptly and in line with key dates
- Secures peer reviews for projects, ensuring timely delivery and closely tracking status of projects under review
- Prepares manuscripts for handover to production to agreed standards and on schedule
- Create and edit book descriptions and cover copy and secures endorsements
- Responds promptly and appropriately to external and internal inquiries
- Liaises closely with authors and production and marketing colleagues
- Provides basic reports and sales information
- Provides administrative support for the list and team
- Bachelor’s degree in social sciences or humanities
- Ability to multi-task, combined with ability to prioritize and manage time well
- Attention to detail, including strong proof-reading skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including handling and communicating information sensitively and professionally
- Acts as a spokesperson for the list and the Bloomsbury Academic Division, representing its key values, objectives, and policies, and upholds Bloomsbury’s missions and values, including our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion within both our publishing and our workplace.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel) is essential, familiarity with Adobe Acrobat is a plus
- Ability to problem solve
