Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Teamwork and Collaboration
- Working with large, multidisciplinary teams to develop strategies to address complex problems.
- Accepting instruction from many members of the team to accomplish project objectives.
- Planning and implementing fieldwork, for example: (i) sampling sediment, porewater, surface water, soil, and groundwater; (ii) driller and contractor oversight; and/or (iii) construction quality assurance and oversight.
- Assist with developing work plans and scopes (e.g., Site Assessment) and subsequent reports (e.g., Remedial Investigation Reports).
- Manage and analyze data to support environmental investigations and prepare tables, figures, and other data exhibits.
- Evaluate chemical data and contaminant fate & transport.
- Evaluate physical material characteristics.
- Assess exposure and human health risks from chemicals in contaminated environmental media and consumer products.
- Perform calculations to support human health risk assessments and environmental regulatory compliance.
- Conduct literature searches and critically review and evaluate scientific studies regarding toxicological, biological, chemical fate and transport, exposure, or other risk assessment subject matters
- The employee shall provide accurate work products while maintaining a service-oriented approach toward internal and external customers, MS Office applications proficiency, proficiency in SharePoint, and learn and use additional software as needed.
- The employee should be independently motivated, provide careful attention to detail and accuracy, provide strong organizational skills, and must be deadline driven, ensuring that work is completed in timeframes required.
- The employee must commit to Geosyntec’s culture of health & safety.
- Training: This position requires health and safety, first aid, CPR, and other training, as well as medical monitoring, paid for by the firm. We also offer professional development opportunities including in-house seminars, webinars, and mentoring, that allow our employees to build the technical and business skills necessary to become successful consultants.
- Fieldwork: Up to 40% (required and varies by project)
- Overnight travel: Up to 5% (required and varies by project)
- Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, environmental engineering or science, toxicology, public health, or a related science field. (required)
- Advanced degree in public health or related science field. (preferred)
- Course work specifically related to toxicology, environmental contamination, and chemical fate and transport in the environment. (preferred)
- Up to 2 years of applicable experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. (preferred)
- Consulting experience preferred.
- Strong work ethic and must be a self-starter with excellent written and oral communication skills. (required)
- Demonstrated ability to work successfully as part of a team and achieve team objectives. (required)
- Willingness to contribute to challenging projects with aggressive schedules. (required)
- Willingness to learn and grow as an environmental consultant. (required)
- Ability to digest and summarize technical language from white papers, reports or regulatory documents. (required)
- Flexibility to work on a multitude of diverse projects, a positive attitude, detail-oriented work style, willingness to learn, and commitment to workplace health and safety. (required)
- Strong quantitative skills and experience managing large datasets with Microsoft Excel and presentation skills with Microsoft PowerPoint. (required)
- Ability to succeed in a consulting pace, handling multiple project assignments, and maintaining flexibility, while meeting strict deadlines. (required)
- Knowledge of and experience in exposure assessment, human health risk assessment, toxicology, and related regulations. (preferred)
- Experience working in challenging outdoor environments. (referred)
- Prior research experience in environmental science or toxicology. (preferred)
- Demonstrated competency in statistics and quantitative data analysis with experience coding in R. (preferred)
- The ability and willingness to travel and perform fieldwork as needed. (required)
- Valid U.S. driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
