The Director, Wound Care oversees the strategic and operational management of the wound care department, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care. This role is responsible for leading the department's clinical and operational functions, including strategic planning, quality improvement initiatives, regulatory compliance, staff development, and fostering collaboration among multidisciplinary teams to achieve optimal outcomes and departmental efficiencies.
Essential Functions
- Oversees daily operations of the wound care department, including staffing, resource allocation, and maintaining a safe, quality-focused environment.
- Develops and implements departmental goals, policies, and procedures aligned with the organization's strategic vision and best practices in wound care management.
- Ensures compliance with regulatory standards, accreditation requirements, and organizational policies, addressing any deficiencies promptly.
- Leads quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient safety, clinical outcomes, and patient satisfaction, monitoring and evaluating performance metrics.
- Prepares and manages the departmental budget, ensuring efficient resource utilization while maintaining financial sustainability and high-quality care.
- Collaborates with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate multidisciplinary care, improving communication and patient outcomes.
- Recruits, trains, and mentors wound care staff, promoting a culture of professional growth, education, and employee engagement.
- Responds to patient care issues, complaints, and incidents, implementing corrective actions and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
- Serves as a resource and leader to foster a collaborative and productive work environment, earning employee and stakeholder commitment.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Complies with all policies and standards.
- Associate Degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Nursing, or a related field required or
- A combination of education and significant wound care experience and/or relevant certifications may be considered in lieu of a degree
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or related field (or obtained within 1-year from start date) preferred
- 5-7 years of experience in wound management required
- 2-4 years of leadership experience required
- Strong clinical knowledge of wound care best practices, treatments, and technologies.
- Leadership and management skills to oversee operations, mentor staff, and foster collaboration.
- Financial acumen to manage budgets and implement cost-saving measures without compromising quality.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to interact with multidisciplinary teams, patients, and stakeholders.
- Ability to analyze performance data and implement strategies for quality improvement and compliance.
- Proficiency in healthcare technology and systems, including electronic health records and wound care-specific tools.
- CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation issued by American Heart Association (AHA), American Red Cross (ARC), or American Safety and Health Institute (ASHI) required
- RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure preferred
- Certified Wound Ostomy Continence Nurse (WOCNB) Board Certification preferred
