Description

SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS: The director will identify, outline and execute strategies to strengthen and support talent development and upskilling strategies for Greater Des Moines (DSM). The director will be a professional who is a mission-driven team player with the ability to operate independently in a fast-paced environment. They must possess excellent people skills, judgement, strong attention to detail and project management skills to move initiatives forward in a collaborative way. The director will be an effective communicator with the ability to create, facilitate internal and external partnerships and initiatives with academic institutions, Partnership Investors and other stakeholders.

Specific Responsibilities

Talent Retention:

  • Works with SVP of Talent Development and Inclusive Strategies on creating a talent pipeline for the Greater Des Moines region (DSM).
  • Leads the DSM Workforce Collaborative in collaboration with key regional business, education and workforce development partners.
  • Builds and develops strong relationships with business leaders, K-12, community college, higher education and other education leaders, HR professionals and other key workforce, education and non-profit partners across the region, state and country to strengthen the talent pipeline and help ensure curriculum and upskilling strategies are in line with the future workforce needs.
  • Works with employers to identify and develop talent development tools and strategies to help address workforce needs, including skills-based hiring.
  • Manages metrics that measures apprenticeships, credentials, internships, work-based learning offerings and other key talent development metrics. Activates strategies and collaborates with partners to positively influence metrics.
  • Partners with the SVP of Talent Development and Inclusive Strategies to develop, grow and lead strategies for employer and Partnership Investor outreach, including implementation, training and support workforce strategies for businesses throughout the DSM region.
  • Collaborates with Communications and Marketing Team to highlight work-based learning and talent retention best practices through blogs, webinars and social media posts.
  • Proactively tracks talent development trends, tools, techniques, strategies and best practices to provide effective and efficient advice to Partnership leadership, Investors and stakeholders.

DSM Fellowship Program

  • Serves as Director of the DSM Fellowship Program.
  • Leads the professional development initiative that attracts, develops and retains a diverse community of top-tier talent.
  • Works with companies to identify employees who are a fit for a fast track.
  • Organizes and executes a professional development curriculum that allows participants to accelerate their professional track.
  • Coordinates community engagement opportunities for cohorts.
  • Ensures Fellows remain engaged and on track throughout the program.
  • Engages with companies to ensure the curriculum continues to meet the needs of their future workforce.
  • Builds relationships with leadership programs throughout DSMUSA.

Legacy Project: Career Ready Collective:

  • Serves as program administrator of the Career Ready Collective.
  • Leads the curriculum development and delivery at multiple locations to support career-ready skills for high school students.
  • Works with non-profit education programs, high schools and key partners to recruit and retain students in the program.
  • Works with Principal Charity Classic leadership to successfully create and execute meaningful sponsorship opportunities within the program.
  • Coordinates keynote speakers, breakout sessions and volunteer opportunities.
  • Ensures program operations are executed with the highest professionalism and strong stewardship.

Other

  • Tracks and documents talent development progress and convey results of initiatives through reports to SVP of Talent Development and Talent Development Board.
  • Manages administrative functions including (but not limited to) budget requests, budget management, expense reporting and documentation, tracking relationship history with employers using CRM Software (ChamberMaster), etc.
  • Assists with the execution of Talent Development strategic priorities and talent attraction campaign.
  • Works weekends and beyond normal business hours at times.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to understand and communicate with business leaders and human resource staff in talent development planning, possessing some HR knowledge.
  • Ability to travel as needed and attend state, regional and national conferences and events.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset; demonstrating creativity and agility in launching new offerings collaboratively and attaining buy-in from diverse voices; disciplined thought process and dynamic problem-solving skills.

Education And Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in business management, education, human resources, communications, marketing or related field.
  • 3+ years in talent/workforce development, human resources, and/or training and education practices, managing multiple stakeholders and developing programs and/or events.
  • Written and verbal communication skills, including demonstrated ability to articulate the organization’s philosophy and position to a wide range of audiences.

Physical Requirements

  • Significant sitting, standing, talking and hearing. Occasionally required to lift or move objects and materials as required by various projects. Reasonable accommodations may be made.
