We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Digital Reporter to write relevant and engaging daily stories and feature content of the Phoenix Suns and Phoenix Mercury for team websites and app, as well as producing feature stories to showcase Valley Suns, Phoenix Suns/Phoenix Mercury Foundation, and partnership initiatives.

Ability to transit throughout the arena for long periods of time. This position works mainly indoors, removed from extreme weather; exposure to weather is S-Sedentary Work – Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally. Must be able to carry on a conversation both on the phone and in-person. We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Digital Reporter to write relevant and engaging daily stories and feature content of the Phoenix Suns and Phoenix Mercury for team websites and app, as well as producing feature stories to showcase Valley Suns, Phoenix Suns/Phoenix Mercury Foundation, and partnership initiatives.
What You Will Do
- Generate written day-to-day coverage of the Phoenix Suns and Phoenix Mercury for team websites and app
- Write feature stories about Suns and Mercury basketball, covering on- and off-court storylines
- Cover Suns and Mercury media availabilities at home games and practices
- Create and maintain an editorial calendar and develop compelling story ideas
- Produce written feature stories to support Valley Suns, Phoenix Suns/Phoenix Mercury Foundation, partnerships and arena initiatives.
- Conduct interviews with relevant subjects to gather information and quotes to assist in storytelling
- Conduct in-depth research to generate accurate and engaging stories
- Assist in posting and maintaining stories on team websites
- Other writing assignments as needed to create content for website, app and marketing needs, as well as for internal communications
- Positive attitude and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Exceptional writing and communication skills; strong understanding of grammar and punctuation with the ability to write clearly and concisely.
- Demonstrated ability to write stories on tight deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Ability to craft compelling narratives
- Strong attention to detail
- Knowledge of digital media best practices and ability to stay up to date on current trends in the field
- Ability to work irregular hours, including nights, weekends
- Journalism background with a minimum of 3-5 years of sports writing experience
- Advanced knowledge of basketball and the NBA / WNBA
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in journalism, communications or related field
