Data Compiler and Quality Specialist (HSC1)
This is a home-based, full-time, permanent position.
This role supports the Department of Health’s mission to protect and improve public health and aligns with the Office of Environmental Public Health Sciences (OEPHS) goal of ensuring that programs and policies are based on sound science. It also supports the implementation of the Healthy Environments for All (HEAL) Act.
As part of the Healthy Homes and Communities Section, this position helps reduce health disparities and improve health equity related to childhood lead exposure in Washington. You will help to maintain, monitor, and update the Childhood Blood Lead module in the Washington Disease Reporting System (WDRS) and the SENSOR Pesticides Incident Data Entry and Reporting System (SPIDER).
Additionally, you'll ensure data quality, assess program performance, and educate labs and healthcare providers about environmental poisons and data reporting. Your work will support investigation and surveillance efforts to identify individuals affected by lead and pesticide poisoning in the state.
Key Responsibilities

Attending events or working In-office is rarely required and would be scheduled in advance. This is a remote/home-based position available to applicants residing anywhere in Washington State, as well as those living near the Oregon/Washington border and the Idaho/Washington border.

Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and support surveillance systems by standardizing and compiling patient medical data into electronic formats, then uploading them to the data repositories.
- Perform manual data entry as needed into the Washington Disease Reporting System (WDRS) and SENSORPesticides Incident Data Entry and Reporting (SPIDER), ensuring timely and complete uploading of data.
- Promote data quality by reviewing reports for completeness and accuracy, following up with clinics or labs as needed.
- Provide technical data support, including monitoring of the Lead email inbox for blood lead data and responding to general inquiries from local health jurisdictions (LHJs) on reporting and program issues.

- Option 1: Three (3) or more years of professional experience in a health services program (or closely allied field) performing tasks that include compiling data (data collection, data cleaning, data transformation, validation, loading, etc.) for inclusion in database(s).
- Option 2: Associate’s degree or higher, including college-level course work in public health, health sciences, environmental sciences, statistics, or other closely allied field; AND one (1) year or more years of experience in a health services program (or closely allied field) performing tasks that include compiling data (data collection, data cleaning, data transformation, validation, loading, etc.) for inclusion in database(s).
- One or more years of customer experience that includes oral and written communication, resolving problems, and responding to inquiries regarding policies, procedures, and/or services.
- One or more years of experience working with Microsoft Excel, which may include creation and use of formulas, functions, and macros.
- Experience with Power Query in Excel, including data import, transformation, and manipulation of data from various sources.
- Experience preparing descriptive statistical summaries.
- Experience working with protected health information.
