Duties Description
The Data Analyst 1 will work in the Office of Public Health’s,Vital Records in the Data Management and Analytics Unit. In this role they will be responsible for tranforming the data available into meaningful insights, reports, and visualizations. These will be used by the Department of Health (DOH) to make improvements to not only NYS's vital records process, but also further DOH's goal of improving the quality of health in NYS Citizens. This will be accomplished using data mining, data engineering, data cleaning, data modeling, natural language processing, and machine learning to analyze data sets. The incumbent will also use analytical programming languages, statistical and mathmatical computations, and visualization software. The incumbent will be responsible for presenting results through visualizations, summaries, and reports.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Non-competitive: bachelor’s degree in data or computer science, informatics, economics, statistics, mathematics, or a related field, and either: satisfactory completion of a two-year traineeship or two years of experience* in data visualization, and statistical models and data mining tools.

- Substitution: A master’s degree in the above fields may substitute for one year of the specialized experience. A Ph.D. in the above fields may substitute for two years of the specialized experience.
