SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Reports directly to Program Coordinator.
  • Participant Outreach and Retention
    • Assist in identification and recruitment of potential participants.
    • Provide support to Workforce Support Specialists with program retention efforts.
  • Community Outreach and Engagement
    • Establish and maintain regular communication with local community-based organizations, nonprofits, faith-based groups and service providers.
    • Conduct community outreach to identify and engage organizations that offer housing, employment, health care, mental health, substance use, legal aid and educational services.
    • Represent the organization at community meetings, coalitions, public forums and events.
    • Identify available beneficial programs in the community and inform team members for facilitation of potential participant referrals.
  • Identification and Development of Potential Partnerships
    • Identify potential formal and informal partnerships with organizations or providers that support service delivery to justice-involved individuals both on a pre-release and post-release level.
    • Cultivate culturally responsive and trauma-informed collaborations.
    • Assist in coordination of MOUs (Memorandum of Understanding) and partnership agreements as needed.
  • Participation in mandatory meetings and training at Department of Corrections facilities as needed including Riker’s Island.
  • Maintain a database of community resources and partnerships.
  • Track outreach and partnership metrics; contribute to reports and evaluations.
  • Assist in planning community events, resource fairs, and reentry-focused forums.
  • Ensure the integrity of the program, communicating with the New York City Department of Education and the Department of Corrections on jail and community-based program progress.

Qualifications

  • Minimum High school diploma or equivalent; Associate’s degree in Social Work, Human Services, Criminal Justice or a related field, or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of community resources and challenges facing formerly incarcerated individuals.
  • Ability to obtain Department of Corrections clearance and work within the constraints of facility guidelines. Including lock downs and personal screenings, this can be changed at the discretion of the Department of Correction.
  • Excellent interpersonal, facilitation, and communication (written and verbal) skills.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills Bi-Lingual a plus.
  • Position may require travel throughout the city/region to meet with CBOs and attend events.
  • Flexibility and dependability.
