Work Environment

This is a hybrid-eligible position, where Monday through Wednesday would be working in our Roseville office, with Thursday and Friday eligible for work-from-home days.

Job Overview

Provides the highest company-wide level of technical claim-handling, including investigation, evaluation, and negotiations pertaining to Property, Collapse, Earth Movement and Total loss of building. Supports the team as technical supervisor in manager’s absence. Assists with Regional audits, mentors less experienced Claim Reps and performs other duties as required or assigned by the Claim Manager or Director.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors and evaluates the most complex claims in the company. Investigates and inspects at the loss site. Completes Estimates at the loss location.
  • Evaluates the loss, coverage, construction costs, construction techniques, local building codes and ordinances. Determines cause and origin of the loss.
  • Identifies questionable or inconsistent information and works with our SIU department if applicable.
  • Documents claim files accurately and thoroughly and composes reports, correspondence and documentation to track and report on the status of individual claims in compliance with reinsurance needs and State DOI regulations
  • Identifies all recovery opportunities and salvage issues and loss exposures. Initiates arson and SIU related investigation reporting. Facilitates investigation of responsible parties and referrals of subrogation activities.
  • Settles claims within the scope of the Company’s contractual and legal obligations to ensure that settlements are fair and equitable to the insured, the claimant, and the Company. Determines the extent of damages formulates and communicates settlement offers.
  • Establishes and monitors claims and reserves, to accurately reflect CIG’s total exposure for the loss. Reviews reserves periodically to evaluate based on new evidence or developments in the life of a claim. Reports findings on reserve issues and damages as needed to our reinsures.
  • Communicates with Claim Managers, insureds, agents, experts, and others associated with an individual claim, in writing, orally and face-to-face. Communicates with Underwriting and Loss Control when deficiencies are noted involving the insured risk. Determines when additional resources are needed beyond the scope of the incumbent’s position or individual capabilities and communicates needs to the Claim Manager and Director. This position may also work with defense attorneys in discovery process.
  • Serves as a technical leader among the teams and support the manager(s) with technical duties such as completing annual and quarterly file audits.

Requirements

  • College degree or equivalent experience and seven (7) years of claim experience, including three years’ experience in handling complex claim files.
  • Knowledge of Current claims laws, specifically civil and tort law and current trends in Property insurance case law and issues
  • Good working knowledge of mathematics and common accounting practices which relate to gross and net income or living-expense calculations.
  • Demonstrate strong negotiation skills and communicate complex legal concepts and policy-contract interpretation in writing and orally
  • Plan, organize, and prioritize work under the pressure of critical deadlines
  • Perform inspections of sites and properties, including roofs, basements, and attics, which may require the use of ladders or stairs to access or the ability to kneel, crawl, and bend
  • Demonstrate strong negotiation skills and communicate complex legal concepts and policy-contract interpretation in writing and orally
  • Maintain a valid California Driver License and operate a vehicle

Salary Range: $71,606-$118,150

The salary range listed here has been provided to comply with local regulations and represents a potential base salary range for this role. Please note that actual salaries may vary within the range above or below, depending on experience and location. We look at compensation for each individual and base our offer on your unique qualifications, experience, and expected contributions. This position may also be eligible for other types of compensation in addition to base salary, such as benefits and bonus programs.
