CIVIL ENGINEER


Position Summary  


Minnkota Power Cooperative is seeking qualified applicants for a Civil Engineer position located at our headquarters in Grand Forks, North Dakota. This position is responsible for Transmission Line Design Engineering, Engineering Analysis, Project Management, and support of Operations and Maintenance personnel.


The salary range for this position begins at $72,677 per year. Appropriate compensation will be determined based on a candidate's skills, education, and any previous relevant experience.


Essential Responsibilities

 

Transmission Line Design Engineering

  • Prepare plan & profile drawings, detailed construction drawings and specifications
  • Develop complete material lists for projects
  • Assure all transmission line design meets strength and safety requirements of Minnkota’s Design Manual, the National Electric Safety Code (NESC) and/or the Rural Utility System (RUS) design manual

Engineering Analysis

  • Perform foundation design calculations
  • Perform structural design and strength calculations using PLS-CADD
  • Determine mechanical loading capabilities of transmission structures

Project Management

  • Project scoping, planning and estimating of substation projects
  • Contractor and construction coordination and management

Operations and Maintenance Support

  • Provide day-to-day guidance and technical expertise to operations and maintenance personnel
  • Verify asset attribute records

Job Qualification Standards


Education and Training 

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited university
  • Engineer In Training (EIT) Certification


Experience

  • Interested candidates with no experience are encouraged to apply, as extensive on the job training will occur
  • Experience in the energy industry and with substation design a plus
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

Mental demands: While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent will be required to problem solve, read, write and analyze data, work under schedules and deadline pressure, present information to others, work independently and use discretion and judgment for confidential or sensitive projects/issues.

Work Environment: While performing the duties of this position, the employee is exposed to an office environment indoors, and will travel outdoors to multiple locations dependent on work.
