CITY OF NEWPORT NEWS IS LOOKING FOR “CITY INTERNS– VET ASSISTANT (PRAS)”
What would a typical day on the job be like? What work would I do? Are you looking for an opportunity to interact with dogs, cats and people? We are looking for City interns to work at our Peninsula Regional Animal Shelter in our Parks & Recreation department. As an intern, you will help build positive relationships and interactions with shelter guests and animals. You will assist in the veterinary clinic at Peninsula Regional Animal Shelter (PRAS) alongside the staff to include the Veterinarian, the Licensed Veterinarian Technicians (LVT) and the Veterinary Assistants. The position will include cleaning, restocking inventory in vet clinic, restraint and prep of surgical animals, filling medications, foster appointments and shelter rounds. What are the qualifications for this position? This internship requires a love for animals, the ability to listen and communicate effectively, basic knowledge of providing good verbal and written communication skills, computer skills, and basic knowledge of safety regulations related to working with animals. Our interns must have acceptable general background checks to include a local and state criminal history check.
How much money can I make? The rate of pay for this position is $15.00 per hour.
What type of schedule will I work and how long will the internship be? This position is an internship starting in the Fall and ending in December. The position will average approximately 8-16 hours a week.
