Requirements

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s Degree, MBA, or similar advanced degree highly desired but not required. 15 years’ experience highly desired but not required.

Position Responsibilities

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) is responsible for overseeing all internal operations, excluding Resource Development, with an emphasis on achieving measurable and cost-effective outcomes. The COO will collaborate independently with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to execute strategic plans and foster new processes and approaches to reach organizational objectives.

  • Serve as the internal leader of the organization.
  • Coordinate the development and implementation of annual operational plans and budgets.
  • Lead performance management initiatives, assessing progress against established organizational goals.
  • Provide consistent, effective leadership to all staff members; connect internal and external operations, and promote an open-door policy within the team.

Program Oversight

  • Supervise and support the Director of Programs, ensuring that key performance metrics are monitored across all areas.
  • Enhance impact measurement systems.
  • Facilitate strategic partnerships, including those with faith-based, educational, and corporate entities.
  • Support ongoing training to maintain high program quality standards.

Finance, Technology, and Human Resources

  • Foster a culture rooted in integrity, inclusiveness, stewardship, safety, and continuous quality improvement.
  • Oversee Human Resources personnel, promoting human capital development and a coaching-oriented environment within Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Indiana.
  • Advance HR practices including training, development, compensation and benefits, employee relations, performance evaluation, and recruitment.
  • Supervise accounting staff; design and implement an accounting system that provides rapid access to financial data and supports strategic budgeting.
  • Evaluate current technological infrastructure and determine requirements for information technology and financial systems to underpin organizational growth; oversee IT staff.
  • Ensure acquisition and maintenance of adequate physical facilities.
  • Collaborate with the Board of Directors, present at quarterly meetings, and participate in board committees as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION

  • Reports to the Executive Director
  • 90 Day Review, Semi-Annual Review, and Annual Reviews
