Seasonal Information - Parks
This is a seasonal position within the Parks & Recreation Department.
Perform manual, skilled, and unskilled labor in the cleaning, maintenance and repair of grounds and facilities at and around City parks/facilities and on or adjacent to public rights-of-way. Performs general construction, maintenance, and repairs to a wide array of City buildings and infrastructure. This position requires applicants to be 16 years of age or older.
The job requires working knowledge of construction and landscape techniques and general cleaning and janitorial methods. The job requires the ability to utilize hand and power tools in a safe manner. The job requires the ability to maintain a collaborative and cooperative working relationship with elected and appointed officials, other City employees, other organizations, and the general public. Individuals must be capable of operating vehicles safely and have an acceptable driving record.
The work environment will include inside conditions, outdoor weather conditions, in wet and humid conditions, with areas of dust, odors, mist, gases or other airborne matter. Employees work in/at places where they are exposed to mechanical hazards. Employees will also drive a vehicle as part of this position. This position works days, evenings, and weekends as required.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
This position has two (2) possible levels to be hired on as. Both levels have their own skills, responsibilities, and rate of pay. Placement is based on experience and will be discussed at the time of offer.

Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this classification, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, bend, climb ladders, work at heights, and in confined spaces. The job requires hand/finger dexterity to handle materials, manipulate tools, and reach with hands and arms. The job requires operation of job-related equipment and driving a vehicle. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds with assistance. Sufficient visual acuity and hearing capacity to perform the essential functions and interact with the public is required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

- Hours of operation are 7:00am - 3:30pm. All scheduled shifts will occur within that window of time.
- Placement on the Seasonal Pay Scale and associated steps relate directly to position, qualifications, and experience with the City of Pocatello.
- Employment with the City of Pocatello is contingent on passing a background check.

- Cemetery Grounds Laborer I (P02)
- Performs hand mowing, weed eating, tree maintenance, and general clean-up of the City’s Mountain View & Restlawn Cemetery grounds on a daily basis.
- Execute safe handling & operation of various turf and landscaping equipment, including hand mowers, sod cutters, weed eaters, dump bed trucks, and other similar small equipment.
- Minor maintenance of mowing equipment, including: maintaining proper oil levels up and keeping blades sharpened.
- Minor irrigation system repairs, such as head replacements & rotor adjustments.
- Daily reporting of assigned job completion status to supervisor.
- Employee may be responsible for driving a City vehicle within various areas of Cemetery grounds, as well as traveling between Cemeteries, as assigned.
- Cemetery Grounds Laborer II (P03)
- Operates motorized turf area and landscaping equipment involved in the maintenance of the City’s Mountain View & Restlawn Cemetery grounds on a daily basis, to include: riding mowers, dump bed & bucket trucks, etc.
- Maintains riding mowers, including: blade sharpening, periodic oil changes & checking fluid levels, preventative maintenance, and routine inspections to determine needed repairs.
- Uses small hand & power tools and equipment in performance of duties, including chain saws, weed eaters, sod cutters, etc.
- Performs irrigation system repairs, including: head replacements & rotor adjustments, excavating and replacing irrigation pipe fittings & control valves, etc.
- Mixes and applies weed control chemicals as needed and assigned, including: broad leaf and noxious weed control around trees & headstones.
- Assists Supervisory Staff in grave site/funeral duties, including: burial set-ups & take downs including compaction, tent set-up, transporting burial related tools & equipment, and operating dump trucks.
- Responsible for driving a City vehicle within various areas of Cemetery grounds, as well as to travel between Cemeteries, as assigned.
Acceptable Experience, Training, Licenses And/Or Certifications
- Applicant must be 16 years of age or older.
- High school diploma or GED is preferred;
- Two (2) to five (5) years of experience may be required;
- Specialized certifications, construction and/or supervisory experience may be required;
- Idaho Driver’s license is required.
