Description

The Buyer will support the supply chain process and procurement efforts of the organization with the purchasing and negotiating of direct material, equipment, and services from suppliers.

  • Provide ongoing selection, development, and management of suppliers to drive continuous improvement.
  • Optimize material flow and delivery using MRP, internal planning, and forecasting tools.
  • Build strong and sustainable supply chain/ vendor relationships. Maintain current knowledge of supplier offerings, strengths, weaknesses, competitors, and evolving opportunities.
  • Assertively pursue and understand the global supply chain market for sourcing and savings. Prioritize the attainment and tracking of total cost savings and cost avoidance.
  • Professionally negotiate price, evaluate quality, and ensure on-time delivery.
  • Proactively respond to engineering changes to minimize obsolescence and shortages.
  • Coordinate and resolve issues regarding existing and new products. Interact with operations, engineering, and sales to ensure all requirements are met.
  • Escalate item availability issues to leadership and engineering, proactively provide substitute recommendations by leveraging the vendor or by technical knowledge for engineering approval.
  • Conduct supplier audits to support benchmarking against other suppliers.
  • Communicate consistently on all activities to internal and external individuals while adhering to all company policies to eliminate and/ or reduce exposure to liability.
  • Special projects as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Verifiable knowledge and understanding of purchasing and supply chain execution in manufacturing.
  • Ability to collect, analyze, and draw conclusions from company data while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Excel), experience with one or more ERP systems (ideally Epicor E9-E10) and ability to quickly learn new systems.

Work Environment And Physical Demands

This is primarily an office classification and employees work in an office with moderate noise levels, controlled temperature conditions and no direct exposure to hazardous physical substances. May work offsite in various environments; travel may be required. Short durations on the shop floor may be required, thus, standard PPE requirements apply (hearing protection, eye protection, safety shoes).

Education And Experience

Required: High school diploma or equivalent with 1+ years MRP purchasing experience or equal amount of experience within a technical manufacturing role.

Desired: Four-year degree with 3+ years MRP purchasing experience. Commodity and mechanical knowledge in steel fabrication, electrical, and hardware. Hydraulic and steel background is also beneficial.
