This open position is within one of our subsidiary companies called CGS Administrators. CGS has been a proven provider of administrative and business services for state Medicaid agencies, managed care organizations, commercial health plans, Medicaid members, Medicare beneficiaries, healthcare providers, and medical equipment suppliers for more than 50 years.
The Biomedical Engineer will work in our onsite lab and is directly responsible and accountable for assessing new Durable Medical Equipment Prosthetics/Orthotics and Supplies (DMEPOS) products and technology compared to other DMEPOS products and technology to facilitate pricing, coding and classification of DMEPOS items and services. They will interface with Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), Medicare Administrative Contractors (MACs) and other stakeholders on a regular basis. They will ensure that all relevant data is maintained, submitted and disseminated within set time frames.

Description
Logistics:
- This is an onsite position in our Columbia, SC office.
- General work hours are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday.
- Conducts technology assessments of the design, purpose, function, effectiveness, and cost of medical devices and supplies. Drafts reports related to these assessments for use in pricing, coding and classification of DMEPOS items and services.
- Assesses the comparability and relative costs of the new DMEPOS items and/or technology in relation to other DMEPOS items and technology for the purpose of establishing Medicare payment amounts for new DMEPOS items and technology.
- Initiates comprehensive technology assessments for up to ten products per year. Makes recommendations regarding additional resources needed to complete each assessment in no later than nine months. Coordinates efforts of additional staff and/or subcontractors whenever they are brought in as resources for conducting a technology assessment.
- Reviews submitted Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) applications and participates in all CMS HCPCS Workgroup meetings, either in person or via conference call.
- Coordinates with law enforcement on requests for assessments of DMEPOS technologies, testimony and other assistance during the course of investigations and/or trials.
- Participates in HCPCS conference calls with DMDs, HCPCS staff, and other relevant participants. Participates in conferences calls with CMS, DME MACs, and UPICs where Orthotic/Prosthetic advice and guidance is needed. May attend and participate in DME Coordination Meetings (DCMs).
- Provides guidance regarding assessments of DMEPOS technologies to personnel, CMS, and to staff limited to the DME MACs and UPICs.
- Required Education: Masters degree in Biomedical Engineering or Bioengineering.
- Required Experience: Five years of experience in bioengineering or biomedical engineering positions, experience in conducting technology assessments, including assessing the cost of medical devices and products.
- Required Skills and Abilities: Working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation software. Ability to work independently, prioritize effectively, and make sound decisions. Good judgment skills. Demonstrated customer service, organizational, and presentation skills. Analytical critical thinking, and math skills necessary to collect, analyze, and report data. Ability to persuade, negotiate, or influence others.
- Required Software and Tools: Microsoft Office.
- Experience with engineering and/or testing of DME (Durable Medical Equipment).
- Neurophysiology knowledge and experience.
- Experience with or knowledge of Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS)or certification in Medical Coding.
