Associate Superintendent of Student Support Services

General Definition of Work
The Associate Superintendent for Student Support Services, under minimal supervision, performs senior-level work with extensive decision-making discretion providing strategic leadership in the designing, planning, implementation, and continuous improvement of districtwide systems and services including Athletics, Student Discipline & Behavior Support, Title IX, Career and Technical Education (CTE), Alternative School, pre-school and Student Wellness. The Associate Superintendent works in close collaboration with the Deputy Superintendent and executive leadership to support policy development, strategic planning, budgeting, and data-driven decision-making that advance district performance, graduation results, and student success. Employee performs advanced supervisory work to carry out Board of Education policies and procedures across a wide range of student-centered programs under the direction of the Deputy Superintendent's

Place of Work
The normal place of work is on the premises used by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. Charlotte- Mecklenburg Schools reserves the right to require you to work at such other place(s) as it may reasonably require from time to time.
Essential Functions
- Adhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures
- Lead, manage, supervise, and evaluate assigned staff/programs
- Oversee and ensure strategic alignment across all assigned departments, programs, and initiatives, driving consistency with organizational goals and priorities
- Develop and implement proactive discipline frameworks that support safe learning environments, reduce exclusionary practices, and increase student engagement and graduation rates
- Ensure that student wellness and mental health supports are integrated across schools to address barriers to learning, promote resilience, and improve academic and postsecondary outcomes
- Remain abreast of and interpret laws, regulations, statutes, rules, and policies affecting areas of responsibility
- Investigate, analyze, and formulate methods for handling special projects/reports
- Manage and monitor departmental budget
- Provide strategic leadership in the design, planning and implementation, and evaluation of goals, short and long-range plans, and programs in assigned area
- Manage the resources within areas of responsibility and advise on the management of district-wide resources
- Monitor accountability standards related to state and federal guidelines
- Oversee the allocation of resources to support schools and students
- Attend Board of Education meetings and other regular and special meetings as required
- Represent the Superintendent on teams for large-scale projects and district-wide initiatives with major employee and community impacts as required
- Monitor and facilitate program mandates established by the Federal government, the NC State Department of Public Instruction, the Board of Education, and the Superintendent
- Provide leadership in the analysis of data regarding the effectiveness of Student Services
- Facilitate staff meetings and attend other related meetings as needed/required
- Complete local, state, or federal surveys and reports accurately and promptly
- Participate in professional development workshops and leadership training
- Create an inclusive environment with positive communication/public relations
- Perform related work as assigned or required
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Comprehensive in-depth knowledge and understanding of the principles, practices, and procedures of public school system policies
- Comprehensive knowledge of federal, state, and local regulatory requirements applicable to public school system programs
- Comprehensive knowledge in the delivery of training including use of technology and best practices related to the development and delivery of training
- Thorough knowledge of county and school board policies, procedures, and standards regarding student services
- Knowledge of curriculum and instructional programs, policies, procedures, practices, and system-wide goals related to CMS Strategic Plans
- Knowledge of the development of key processes for the purpose of increasing operational efficiencies and assuring high-level customer service
- Knowledge of public speaking techniques
- Ability to maintain professional and emotional control under stress
- Ability to reflect appropriate response to situations, while maintaining a professional and personal demeanor
- Ability to learn and use specialized tools, equipment or software related to business needs
- Ability to develop and monitor a budget
- Ability to direct and evaluate the work of others

- Demonstrated ability to perform detailed work, planning, risk assessments, and associated risk mitigation actions

Education and Experience
- Master's degree in School Administration or related area required
- Doctorate in Educational Leadership preferred
- NC Certification (Principal or Superintendent) required
- Minimum of five (5) years' experience as building or district administrator required
- Equivalent combination of experience and education
Special Requirements
- Possess and maintain a NC Driver's License or ability to provide own transportation
- Travel to school district buildings and professional meetings
