Are you a creative writer who loves the intersection of game mechanics and flavor? Can you write art briefs and dive deep into some of the worlds biggest IPs and Magic, while keeping your head in both the Fun and the Future of gaming? The Magic Studio has an exciting opportunity for an Associate Narrative Designer, Magic: The Gathering!

Magic produces multiple set releases and thousands of cards per year, and we are a high-talent, welcoming team seeking someone who is a curious, adaptable, and creative team member to bring their robust writing, collaborative communication, and game design skills to the team!

What You'll Do:

  • Writes a baseline volume of art briefs.
  • Provides timely feedback to art directors about illustrations, including mechanical relevance and continuity concerns for characters and lore.
  • Coordinates with set Creative Leads to support the realization of creative goals in art briefs and final illustrations.
  • Participates in worldbuilding and game design brainstorms, contributes to team discussions, tackles delegated vision work tasks from Creative Leads.
  • Writes card names and flavor text.
  • Participates in playtests for assigned sets and in studio-wide playtests.

What You'll Bring:

  • At least one to two years working experience in a creative field or equivalent education. (writing assessment required)
  • Proactive communication and organization skills.
  • A deep love for media, pop culture, sci-fi, fantasy and fiction.
  • A bias toward action and eagerness to iterate on ideas collaboratively.
  • A passion for using feedback and data to better inform the work.
  • A developed perspective on inclusive storytelling within a variety of IPs.
  • Knowledge of TCGs/Magic: The Gathering rules and gameplay.

Compensation Range, Currency USD:

  • Starting Pay Range: $67,725
  • Pay Range End: $110,600
