The City of Billings is seeking an Assistant Network Administrator to assist in the secure and efficient operation of the City's network infrastructure, systems, cloud services, and user access environment. Provides support for networking equipment, backups, cloud tools, and end-user access. This position also directly supervises the PC Support Team, including Public Safety PC Support Specialists and PC Support Specialists.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Configures, installs, and manages all hardware, services, and their applications.
  • Supports upgrades and patching.
  • Installs, configures, and updates all network hardware.
  • Manages and configures all Cloud hosted services.
  • Monitors network traffic, reviewing logs, and troubleshooting any network related issues.
  • Maintains an inventory of all network related hardware.
  • Maintains closets, rooms, racks, wiring, cables, infrastructure connections, and related equipment.
  • Manages the maintenance contracts on all network hardware.
  • Manages Microsoft Active Directory (AD).
  • Supports interfaces to AD from other software and services.
  • Manages DNS connections.
  • Manages and supports network domains.
  • Participates in IT change management processes.
  • Creates and updates O365 accounts, Email accounts, user migrations, and licensing management.
  • Supports E-mail filters.
  • Manages and monitors all E-mail Archiving solutions.
  • Manages and monitors all O365 Teams Chat logs.
  • Provides end user support and training for all O365 applications.
  • Assists staff in person or over the phone.
  • Supports IT staff.
  • Provides support to the Network Administrator and IT Security Engineer.
  • Manages and monitors systems and data backups.
  • Assists with content restores (email, files, Teams) and backup job configuration.
  • Manages all backup systems.
  • Designs, coordinates, and manages disaster/recovery (D/R) backups.
  • Supervises PC Support Specialists and Public Safety PC Support Specialists.
  • Coordinates workload distribution, training, documentation standards, and cross-training among PC support staff.
  • Serves as escalation point for PC support issues.
  • Ensures compliance with lifecycle management, security standards, and asset tracking.
  • Participates in 24/7 Public Safety On-Call support rotation.
  • Maintains technical documentation.
  • Supports the City's IT Cybersecurity and Policy Manual.
  • Supports all security related policies, procedures, and troubleshooting.
  • Responds to cyber incidents.
  • Fulfills Public Records Requests and authorized internal searches.
  • Backs up Network Administrator as necessary.

Required Qualifications And Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, business administration, or a related program.
  • Four (4) or more years of experience in networking PC support, IT Security, or the equivalent.
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a Federal and State criminal history background check.

Preferred Qualifications And Skills

  • Experience with managing and supporting a hybrid server environment (on-prem and cloud), including Active Directory, Domains, DNS, network hardware, backups, Email systems, and O365.
  • Networking or other industry standard certifications such as CompTIA Network+, CCNA, JNCIA, or Microsoft certifications.
  • Supervisory experience.

Salary Range: $32.6315 - $37.7503 per hour. Salary reflects Step 1 and Step 4 of a 7-step pay scale. Salary at hiring will be dependent upon the applicant's education, experience, and training.

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. This is an on-premises position. Remote work is not an option.
