The Assistant Director of Heath Promotion will develop, implement, and assesses comprehensive health promotion programs and initiatives that promote student wellbeing, personal development, and improve health outcomes. Leads health promotion efforts with a focus on physical, sexual, and emotional wellbeing. Supervises Health Promotion staff, student employees, interns and volunteers.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Provides strategic planning, coordination, and implementation of health promotion programs and initiatives that promote student wellbeing in alignment with the University’s mission, Student Affairs priorities, and Health Services outcomes.
- Collects, analyzes and uses data to inform and evaluate program effectiveness. Conducts assessment activities, including surveys, focus groups, benchmark activities, and needs assessments.
- Tracks and monitors data regularly; assists with preparing reports. Assists with implementation of campus-wide health surveys, such as the National College Health Assessment.
- Responsible for hiring, training, and supervising Health Promotion staff, peer health educators, interns, and volunteers.
- Manages timekeeping and performance evaluations.
- In conjunction with Health Services leadership, ensures department compliance with laws, regulations, University and Health Services procedures, protocols, and policies.
- Maintains departmental compliance with AAAHC standards. Initiates and maintains, as necessary, appropriate agreements (MOUs) with community-based organizations.
- Develops, conducts, and facilitates wellness coaching sessions, wellness workshops, and other wellbeing programs.
- Conducts and coordinates health and wellbeing outreach, including presentations to other campus departments, academic units, classrooms, student organizations, and incoming students, promoting Health Services and the Office of Health Promotion. Serves as a back-up facilitator for BASICS and CASICS.
- Acts as the primary liaison for Health Promotion. Stays up to date with current research, best practices, and evidence-based strategies in the field of health promotion. Collaborates with campus departments and community-based organizations.
- Participates in work groups, committees, and coalitions to advance University health and wellbeing initiatives.
- Ensures health promotion, outreach, and marketing materials, including presentations, printed and digital media, and social media, meets accessibility standards, and follows Student Affairs’ marketing and communication guidelines and UTA’s Identity System.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Master’s degree in health education, public health or related field.
- Three to five (3-5) years of professional experience in student health and wellness in higher education.
- Must have experience developing and supervising staff.
- Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) or Certified in Public Health (CPH)
- Experience facilitating BASICS, CASICS or other harm reduction program.
- Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to speak in front of small and large groups to provide presentations, workshops, trainings, and outreach programs and facilitate discussions.
- Strong written communication skills. Experience collecting and analyzing data, generating reports, and sharing findings.
- Demonstrated experience in event and program planning, implementation, and evaluation.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities, prioritize appropriately, pay attention to details, and meet deadlines.
- Knowledgeable in health content areas relevant to college students, including but not limited to physical, sexual, and emotional health, and alcohol and other drugs misuse prevention.
- Experience with creating health promotion materials, including flyers, brochures, handouts, presentations, and social media.
- Trained and experienced in using motivational interviewing skills.
- Onsite position.
- General office conditions with most of the time spent working indoors.
- Some programs and events may take place outdoors where temperatures can be hot or cold.
- Performs tasks such as standing for extended periods of time, bending, lifting, walking, and carrying.
- Cleaning and maintaining office space and event area.
