Job Description:
In this role, you will be responsible for various tasks, including supporting the accounting team, monitoring and implementing internal controls and policies, ensuring timely close cycle, managing journal entries, reviewing accounting information for accuracy all while being in compliance with regulations and accounting guidelines. You will oversee the “3 pillars” of the accounting team (AR Team, AP Team and FA/INV Team) and will need to ensure the team stays on track with the Mesa close timeline. Taking ownership to resolve any challenges that the pillars encounter. This position requires strong attention to detail, must have excellent communication skills and have a strong sense of responsibility, self-motivation, and great organizational abilities. The Assistant Controller must value excellence within their work and will maintain the integrity of accounting/financial records and files.

Essential Duties:
- Support most aspects of accounting management.
- Assist in the formulation of internal controls and policies to comply with GAAP and established best practices.
- Assist in the preparation of data for financial statements to ensure compliance with official guidelines and requirements.
- Manage journal entries, invoices etc. and reconcile accounts for the monthly and annual closing.
- Assist in the preparation of budgets or forecasts where needed.
- Participate in preparation for the annual audit.
- Help in development of reports for management or regulatory bodies.
- Review the company’s accounting information to identify and resolve inaccuracies or imbalances.
- Utilize accounting IT system to facilitate processes and maintain records.
- Oversee the three pillars ensuring their tasks are completed in line with close guidelines.
- Performs all other duties assigned.
Education:
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance from accredited four-year university.
Experience:
- 3+ years of experience as an accounting manager, assistant controller or controller.
- Supervisory experience and an ability to work with various levels of staff.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
- Able to work independently and ensure tasks are completed with little supervision.
- Ability to work under stress in high pressure situations.
- Able to handle frequent interruptions and handle conflict in an effective manner.
- Ability and willingness to learn new processes and business functions to facilitate the mission.
- Possess the ability to be a team player.
- Adaptability and ability to work in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment.
- Possess a positive and energetic self-starter attitude, with excellent drive, ambition and work ethic.
- Ability to communicate ideas effectively and maintain deadlines.
- Working knowledge of at least one accounting package. Quickbooks preferred.
- Experience with and knowledge of subscription based revenue streams.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Budgeting experience.
- Able to communicate effectively with clients and accounting staff.
- Experience with the implementation of a new general ledger package.
- Understanding of payroll laws, regulations and systems.
- Must demonstrate positive leadership, effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Able to perform duties with minimal supervision, able to meet deadlines, and consistently use good judgment.
- Must be reliable and able to work independently and understand the importance of maintaining confidentiality.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- The Assistant Controller must have advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office - Excel, Word, PowerPoint and data base management.
