Job Purpose

Apply advanced analytical techniques to evaluate powder coatings' composition and properties, contributing to product innovation and compliance with industry standards. Will manage and complete testing projects for internal and external customers ensuring completion with agreed timelines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Apply scientific principles to perform routine analysis and characterization of samples.
  • Provide guidance and training on test methods and control of equipment to customers and AkzoNobel team members from other locations.
  • Purchase required laboratory supplies including ordering parts, equipment and chemicals to keep the facility and equipment operational.
  • Provide support for production and customer issues, identifying the root cause and implementing corrective action
  • Identify new process optimization, technical solutions, and new application opportunities for designated area sharing recommendations with other business units.
  • Contribute to the extension of existing technology within areas of experience to include modification, design, calibration, maintenance, and procedures of equipment to maximize efficiencies. Will oversee regularly scheduled preventative maintenance on all testing equipment.
  • Build and manage relationships with functional stakeholders within Research and Development, Commercial, Marketing, and Supply Chain.
  • Serve as the AkzoNobel representative with external trade groups to establish and standardize new test procedures and methodologies.
  • Promote health, safety and environmental regulations by ensuring that standards, policies, and procedures are adhered to in compliance with corporate, federal, state, and local requirements.

Job Requirements

  • Education and Experience Requirements:
    • Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Analytical Science or related field and 5 years' polymer, coatings, analytical sciences or related experience.
    • Master of Science in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Analytical Science or related field and 3 years' polymer, coatings, analytical sciences or related experience.
    • Doctor of Philosophy in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Analytical Science or related field and 1 year polymer, coatings, analytical sciences or related experience.
  • Additional Requirements:
    • Supervisory experience leading testing projects and programs required.
    • Extensive understanding and experience with analytical instrumentation. SEM/EDS, FT-IR, and DSC knowledge preferred.
    • Effective organizational and project management skills to manage multiple projects and tasks as well as the ability execute complex technical tasks leading to a successful conclusion.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills to prepare customer reports and present information to colleagues and customers.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office. Experience using laboratory software preferred.
Rewards And Benefits

The salary range for these skills is $88,000.00 - $95,000.00 based upon experience. This is the range that we in good faith anticipate relying on when setting wages for this position. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This salary range may also be modified in the future.
