The Advocacy and Public Policy Coordinator ensures alignment between the Food Bank’s mission, Feeding America priorities, and state/local hunger-relief advocacy efforts, while also engaging staff, volunteers, donors, and the public in the fight against food insecurity.

The Advocacy and Public Policy Coordinator ensures alignment between the Food Bank’s mission, Feeding America priorities, and state/local hunger-relief advocacy efforts, while also engaging staff, volunteers, donors, and the public in the fight against food insecurity.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Policy Advocacy and Engagement
- Monitor local, state, and federal policy developments impacting hunger relief and food insecurity.
- Represent the Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma (FBEO) in advocacy coalitions and networks, including bi-weekly calls with Oklahoma food insecurity advocates and monthly Feeding America advocacy calls.
- Build and maintain relationships with elected officials, policymakers, and legislative staff.
- Partner with A&A Advocacy for mentoring, site visits, and policy strategy support.
- Draft policy briefs, fact sheets, and advocacy materials for internal and external audiences.
- Collaborate with partner agencies, community leaders, and advocacy groups to advance collective efforts to reduce food insecurity.
- Coordinate advocacy training for staff, volunteers, and community partners to build capacity and awareness.
- Organize advocacy events such as Hunger Action Month activities, Capitol visits, and town halls.
- Serve as a spokesperson for the FBEO’s advocacy efforts when needed.
- Keep Chief Development Officer updated on current policy issues and opportunities for action.
- Contribute advocacy updates for newsletters, social media, donor communications, and the Food Bank’s website.
- Provide reports on advocacy activities, outcomes, and policy progress to Chief Development Officer.
- Track and evaluate advocacy engagement metrics, including legislator contacts, coalition participation, and public awareness campaigns.
- Assist in grant writing or reporting were advocacy outcomes support funding opportunities.
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in political science, communications, nonprofit management, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Experience in advocacy, public policy, community organizing, or the nonprofit sector preferred.
- Strong understanding of food insecurity, hunger-relief programs, and related public policy issues.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to engage diverse stakeholders.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, work independently, and collaborate across teams.
- Comfort with public speaking and relationship-building with elected officials.
- Passion for the mission of ending hunger and strengthening communities.
