Founded in 1982 as Joliet Area Community Hospice, Lightways Hospice and Serious Illness Care is an independent, nonprofit healthcare provider licensed in 11 counties in northwest Illinois. We provide exceptional serious illness care, hospice care, and grief support for adults and children.

The majority of our direct patient care is in the field, with Lightways team members providing care in the home, nursing facility, or assisted living facility. We also have a 24-bed inpatient unit in Joliet. Non-clinical staff are based out of our Joliet administrative offices.

We currently have a full-time opening for an Accountant I. This is an entry-level accounting position and is an on-site position in Joliet.

This position is responsible for supporting the finance department in various accounting and financial tasks and will assist with the preparation of financial statements as part of month-end and year-end close, support payroll and billing, prepare general ledger entries, and assist with forecasting and budgeting. Additional responsibilities include:

  • Identify, record, and depreciate fixed assets.
  • Perform monthly account reconciliations.
  • Review variances to budget and provide explanations.
  • Assist with the preparation of documents for the annual financial audit.
  • Maintain the chart of accounts.
  • Provide support as a backup for payroll processes, supporting the Payroll Specialist.
  • Provide support for billing by completing insurance authorizations, claims submissions, and processing patient statements.
  • Review payroll processing to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions, including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions.
  • Review payroll records entered by HR and Payroll, including information needed for the distribution of W-2, 1094-C, and 1095-C forms.
  • Provide administrative support to the finance department as needed, including filing, data entry, and other clerical tasks.

The successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field with 1-2 years of relevant experience in accounting, payroll, or finance (internship experience may be considered). Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software is a plus. Knowledge of clinical documentation and medical knowledge is preferred.
