Job Summary

Are you passionate about cloud technologies and eager to develop innovative cloud-based solutions? NetApp's Azure NetApp Files (ANF) team is building industry-leading cloud storage services that power mission-critical enterprise workloads in Microsoft Azure. We are looking for a highly motivated engineers to help develop and operate cloud-scale distributed systems that span storage, networking, cloud infrastructure, and user experience. This is a unified engineering role where engineers are expected to contribute across development, automated validation, performance, operational readiness, and service reliability. The ideal candidate enjoys solving complex technical challenges, takes ownership from design through production, and thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment. While programming language experience, we expect engineers to incorporate AI-native engineering practices

Job Requirements

  • Own the design, development, performance, scalability, reliability, and operational excellence of data-plane services and data management systems.
  • Lead features through the full software lifecycle, including architecture, implementation, testing, deployment, monitoring, troubleshooting, and production support.
  • Design, develop, and operate cloud-native, distributed systems using microservices, containers, Kubernetes, and modern CI/CD practices.
  • Build and maintain scalable, secure, production-quality backend services, APIs, and service integrations with a strong focus on automation, observability, and software quality.
  • Drive engineering excellence through code reviews, automated testing, performance optimisation, security best practices, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate closely with product management, architects, and cross-functional engineering teams to deliver end-to-end solutions across storage, cloud infrastructure, networking, security, and customer-facing services.
  • Participate in architecture reviews, technical discussions, and design decisions, while mentoring team members and contributing to technical growth across the organisation.
  • Troubleshoot complex production issues, conduct root cause analysis, and implement long-term reliability and scalability improvements.
  • Effectively communicate technical solutions, design trade-offs, and project progress to stakeholders at all levels.

Education

  • 4-8 years of experience in software or systems engineering, with 3+ years of experience in data management systems and storage platforms (e.g., NetApp ONTAP or similar technologies).
  • Strong proficiency in Go for developing scalable backend services; experience with Python for automation, testing frameworks, CI/CD, and operational tooling.
  • Experience leading small to medium-sized technical projects and driving deliverables from concept to production.
  • Strong experience in one or more of the following areas: cloud storage services, distributed systems, file systems, databases, data protection, infrastructure services, or related technologies.
  • Familiarity with C/C++, C#, React, or TypeScript is desirable.
  • Hands-on experience developing RESTful APIs and operating microservices-based applications using Kubernetes and container technologies.
  • Experience building and operating cloud-native distributed systems on Azure, AWS, or GCP.
  • Strong understanding of software quality, observability, monitoring, telemetry, performance optimisation, and security practices.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills, with a passion for learning new technologies.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field and 6-8 years of relevant software development experience, or a Master’s degree with 4-8 years of related experience, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and deliver complex software systems, with expertise in distributed systems, cloud-native technologies, and large-scale production environments.
  • Strong commitment to continuous learning and staying current with emerging technologies, industry trends, and software engineering best practices.

Compensation:
The target salary range for this position is $180,000 - $210,000 . The salary offered will be determined by the candidate's location, qualifications, experience, and education and may be outside of this range. The range is based on 'On Target Earnings’ (OTE) representing the total potential earnings, which is the sum of the base salary and potential commission earned when performance targets are achieved. Final compensation packages are competitive and in line with industry standards, reflecting a variety of factors, and include a comprehensive benefits package. This may cover Health Insurance, Life Insurance, Retirement or Pension Plans, Paid Time Off, various Leave options, employee stock purchase plan, and/or restricted stocks (RSU’s). These offerings are subject to regional variations and governed by local laws, regulations, and company policies.
