Classification: Seasonal

Hours: Flexible schedule of approximately 24 - 32 hours per week including weekends and holidays

Pay Rate: $15.89/hour

This is a seasonal position with a maximum duration of six months, based on individual performance and business operations. The exact end date will be determined by the official start date.

Summary:

Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium is seeking guest-first, hospitality-focused Skyfari Operators who can confidently and professionally respond to a wide variety of situations to ensure guest satisfaction and conduct safe and enjoyable rides for Zoo guests on the Skyfari attraction while providing excellent customer service. Skyfari Operators play a critical role in shaping first and lasting impressions by answering routine questions, greeting visitors, and following all Zoo policies. Skyfari Operators focus specifically on the daily operation of the attraction including, but not limited to, opening the ride, safety checks, sorting guests, loading guests, unloading guests, and operating the Skyfari operating panel. This position reports directly to the Guest Services Supervisor team and works collaboratively to deliver safe, engaging, and memorable experiences for every guest.

Duties and Responsibilities (include but not limited to):

• Safely operate the Skyfari in all weather conditions.
• Assist guests at ticketing kiosks by answering questions and completing transactions.
• Provide general information about prices, location of specific attractions, and safety rules.
• Perform safety checks at the beginning of the day, end of day, and after any extended Skyfari shutdowns.
• Assist with chair assembly in Spring and chair detachment when the ride is done for the season.
• Ensure guest safety on the Skyfari and areas surrounding the Skyfari.
• Maintain a clean and professional appearance of ride locations and the surrounding areas.
• Ensure guest compliance with rules and safety regulations.
• Assist guests with the loading and unloading of the Skyfari.
• Report all safety related, animal related, mechanical issues, or other incidents to a supervisor.
• Enforce Zoo policies for closures and evacuations in the event of emergency situations.
• Represent our Zoo in a positive and professional manner to maintain an open and accepting atmosphere.
• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Must be available to work approximately 24 hours each week during the summer season.
• Must be available to work weekends and holidays during the summer season.
• Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
• Ability to provide friendly, approachable, and courteous service to guests in all interactions.

Candidates might be (depending on position) required to pass a pre-employment background check, drug test, negative skin tuberculosis test.

Experience:

• Prior guest services experience preferred but not required.
• Bilingual language skills are a plus.

Working Environment and Physical Effort:

• Will sometimes work extended/odd hours including weekends and holidays.
• Must be able to walk long distances across our Zoo.
• Work is done in an outdoor setting in all weather conditions.
• Must be able to stand, sit, kneel, bend, twist, reach above head, and climb for extended periods of time.
• Will lift, push, pull, and/or move up to 15 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds using safe and proper lifting methods.
• May have the opportunity to work some evening events.
