Senior Insurance Specialist (Senior Program Specialist)

The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB), Institute of Human Virology (IHV) THRIVE program is our outpatient Infectious Disease practice located at University of Maryland Midtown Campus. The IHV is seeking a Senior Insurance Program Specialist to coordinate all aspects of our health insurance programming. We are looking to make impactful differences in the lives of patients and communities we serve. This position will support both patients and staff by overseeing all insurance matters impacting patient care. This person will work alongside a team of social workers and other psychosocial support services and coordinate all insurance matters for patients served by IHV.

Primary Duties:

Responsible for all aspects of the IHV Health Insurance program at THRIVE.

In collaboration with programmatic leadership, plan, develop, administer, and coordinate new or revised goals and objectives for health insurance programming.

Provide advanced support to the programmatic leadership teams.

Evaluate program effectiveness to develop and implement new or improved methods.

Develop and maintain system for overall health insurance recertification.

Assist patients with applying for prescription assistance programs and complex insurance navigation.

Oversee operations for uninsured patient billing relating to labs, pharmacy, and subspecialty appointments. Think critically about all aspects of the health program to resolve questions and make decisions related to the program.

Perform specialized administrative functions, program coordination and monitoring, data collection, reports, and recommend program changes relating to financial statements and budgets.

Monitor and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure compliance with work plan and deliverables.

Prepare program reports for submission to management or funders.

Develop and facilitate workshops and meetings in area of specialty to multidisciplinary staff and patients to increase health literacy.

Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree
Experience: Three (3) years’ administrative or program coordination experience. Experience with health insurance and HIV is preferred.
Preferred Experience: One (1) year in work coordination, training, and daily oversight of staff, students, or volunteers preferred.
Related experience may be substituted for education.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Knowledge of position requirements. Knowledge of all applicable requirements, regulations, and laws. Skill in effective use of applicable technology/systems.
Knowledge of all Maryland health insurance public and private programs
Knowledge of HIV related programs including Ryan White, MADAP, Careware
Skill in effective use of Microsoft Office and EPIC.
Ability to effectively communicate both verbal and written thoughts, ideas, and facts. Ability to work cooperatively with others and independently. Hiring Range: $80,000 - $84,000, Commensurate with education and experience
