What You'll Be Doing
Wake County Government is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior Executive Assistant to provide exceptional administrative and operational support to the County Manager’s Office. As the Senior Executive Assistant, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the seamless daily operations of the County Manager’s Office. You will also support the Wake County Board of Commissioners by coordinating meeting logistics, preparing and managing agendas, and ensuring accurate and timely documentation. This position requires a proactive, detail‑oriented professional who can anticipate needs, solve problems, and manage complex administrative tasks with the highest level of confidentiality and professionalism. Your work will directly support transparent, efficient county operations and help deliver meaningful impact to more than one million Wake County residents.
Key Responsibilities
Provide comprehensive day‑to‑day administrative support to the County Manager’s Office
Coordinate schedules and manage calendars for assigned executive leadership
Oversee and process all accounts receivable and purchasing transactions, including contract payments, invoice processing, purchase orders, and p‑card reconciliations
Draft, enter, and process contracts for select departments
Plan, coordinate, and support Board of Commissioners meetings, committee meetings, and special sessions
Prepare, post, and manage meeting and committee agendas and related documentation
Serve as a primary point of contact between the County Manager’s Office, county departments, and external stakeholders
Provide front desk and phone coverage, responding to public inquiries, requests, and concerns with professionalism and empathy
Support department projects, activities, and strategic initiatives as assigned
Assist in planning department and County‑wide events and functions
Serve as a backup to other administrative staff and maintain cross‑training in all departmental administrative functions

The Basics (Required Education and Experience)
Associate's degree in Business Administration, Office Administration or a related field
Three years of experience in increasingly responsible administrative and executive support work
Valid Driver’s License and “safe” driving record
Equivalent education and experience are accepted

Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience)
Bachelor's degree in Public Administration, Office Administration or a related field
At least five years experience working for executive staff, selected/appointed officials and/or a governing body
At least five years experience providing administrative support at an executive level
Excellent computer skills including a proficient skill level in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
Excellent writing skills
Exceptional organizational skills
Demonstrated data management skills
