Position Title: Project Manager


Position Summary:

Leads the planning, execution, and commissioning of capital projects, including facility upgrades, building improvements, machine tool installations, and related infrastructure work. Supports the full capital project lifecycle from ideas through closeout, including helping stakeholders develop, justify, and submit Capital Project Requests with supporting ROI analysis and business case documentation. Provides input on capital project prioritization across the campus. Owns project scope, schedule, and budget from approval through commissioning and closeout. Acts as the single point of accountability, coordinating with internal departments (Engineering, Maintenance, Operations, Quality, EHS, IT, Finance) and external partners (general contractors, OEMs, riggers, and trade subcontractors). Ensures all projects are delivered safely, on time, on budget, and to specification while minimizing production disruption.

Personnel:

Individual contributor with matrix authority. Manages assigned project resources from internal teams and oversees external contractors and vendors.


Accountabilities:

Ensures compliance with all SOPs and work instructions while supporting 6S and Lean Manufacturing. Responsible for the safe, on‑time, and on‑budget delivery of assigned projects, including scope adherence, MTM safety and quality compliance, and accurate cost and schedule forecasting. Maintains complete and auditable project documentation, including budgets, change orders, vendor records, commissioning files, and as‑built documentation.


Authorities:

Within the limits of each approved Capital Project Request and applicable purchasing thresholds, authorized to:

  • Issue purchase requisitions and approve contractor invoices
  • Manage change orders within approved contingency
  • Direct contractors and internal project resources
  • Halt work for safety, quality, or scope‑control concerns
  • Represent MTM in vendor and contractor negotiation
  • Changes beyond approved budget, contingency, or scope require reapproval through the Capital Project Request workflow.


Duties:

  • Assist stakeholders in formulating and submitting Capital Project Requests, including developing scope definitions, ROI analysis, payback calculations, and supporting business case documentation required for approval. Once approved, translate requests into executable project plans including scopes of work, schedules, budgets, resource plans, and risk registers.
  • Validate assumptions, ROI inputs, and scope against site conditions, vendor quotations, and constructability.
  • Lead project kickoff meetings with internal stakeholders and external partners.
  • Develop and maintain master schedules with critical‑path milestones.
  • Plan and execute work to minimize production impact, including phasing, off‑shift work, and temporary utilities.
  • Identify, evaluate, and recommend vendors and contractors in collaboration with Purchasing
  • Solicit and evaluate quotations, issue and manage purchase requisitions; verify deliverables prior to invoice approval.
  • Coordinate with general contractors and subcontractors; review submittals, RFIs, drawings, and pay applications.
  • Manage change orders within approved contingency.
  • Provide monthly project status updates to key stakeholders.
  • Support Finance with asset capitalization, including in‑service dates, tagging, and documentation.
  • Manage facility-related capital projects across MTM’s 650,000+ sq. ft. campus, including expansions, relocation of machine tools and supporting equipment, foundations, utilities, data, exhaust/filtration, roofing, HVAC, lighting, compressed air, electrical systems, coatings, machine tools, cranes, and clean rooms.
  • Ensure work meets all applicable building, electrical, mechanical, fire, and environmental requirements; coordinate permits and inspections.
  • Plan and oversee rigging operations; verify load paths, floor capacity, and clearances.
  • Coordinate OEM commissioning, runoff, and acceptance testing; verify accuracy, capability, and safety interlocks.
  • Prioritize safety; enforce contractor safety requirements and ensure proper LOTO, hot work, fall protection, confined space, and crane/rigging procedures.
  • Ensure contractors meet all MTM insurance, training, and access requirements, including ITAR where applicable.
  • Maintain complete project documentation, including drawings, specifications, manuals, certifications, training records, and test results.
  • Manage contractor performance related to schedule, quality, safety, and housekeeping.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all assigned capital projects across MTM.
  • Perform other duties as required.


Job Qualification Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Industrial Technology, or a related technical field required.
  • PMP preferred.
  • OSHA 30‑Hour Construction and Lean/Six Sigma certifications preferred.
  • Minimum 5yrs managing capital projects, including facility/construction work and industrial equipment installations.
  • Demonstrated success managing budgets ranging from $100K to multi‑million-dollar projects.
  • Experience coordinating contractors, riggers, and OEMs in an operating industrial environment.
  • Knowledge of machine tool installation requirements, including foundations, utilities, controls, and commissioning, is preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical, electrical, structural, and architectural drawings. Proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Excel, Projects, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint).
  • Strong communication, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.
  • Demonstrated judgment in balancing cost, schedule, safety, and quality.


Physical Demands – The employee is required to:

  • stand, walk, push, pull, reach overhead, and bend to the floor
  • exert 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or
  • exert 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or
  • exert up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Visual Acuity – Near acuity and accommodation as required for reading.


Hearing Ability – Ability to communicate with employees and vendors.


Working Conditions –

Normally works in a shop environment and may frequently be subject to:

  • High noise levels from machinery
  • Physical hazards from moving equipment and production components
  • Breathing fumes, dust and mist
  • Skin exposure to oils and cutting fluids
  • Welding flashes
