JOB TITLE: Pre-Clinical Education Specialist

SUPERVISOR: Education Director for Testing Services

This job description provides a general outline of the duties and qualifications of the position. Other duties may be assigned, and the description may change at any time.

Position Description

The Pre-Clinical Education Specialist (PCES) will assist in the daily operations of Office of Assessment, support the Academic Affairs department at KansasCom. The PCES will provide support for KHSC's pre-clinical courses and labs, assist with the development of course content for pre-clinical courses. The PCES will assist with preparation and administration of examinations including compiling and formatting classroom exams, administering, and grading exams, maintaining, and calculating grades. The PCES’ duties include significant interaction with both students and faculty requiring a consistent professional demeanor.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Work with faculty to schedule, compile, and format classroom exams.
  • Administer student exams including, producing, proctoring, grading, and recording results of student exams.
  • Review all item analysis from exams and determine when to post grades for students.
  • Submit all course final grades to the Registrar at the end of each trimester.
  • Work with faculty to assist in the development and support of courses within Canvas (learning management system).
  • Prepare course materials and provide logistical support for the curriculum.
  • Function as a liaison between students and clinical faculty for curricular matters.
  • Fully apply FERPA/HIPAA guidelines regarding data access, files, and records.
  • Communicate effectively with all levels of faculty and students.
  • Maintain an up-to-date list of student and faculty access.
  • Assist with specific ongoing projects related to the department's research and development functions as assigned.
  • Provide support for curricular assessments including outcome mapping.
  • Work as part of a collaborative team to serve the educational mission of the school.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualification(s)

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, health education administration, statistically based social sciences or equivalent experience required. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Experience working in an institution of higher education desired, medical school experience preferred.


Key Competencies

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • Knowledge of learning management systems
  • In-depth knowledge of Canvas (LMS) in the admin role strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of teaching and assessment
  • Knowledge of test construction and validation criteria
  • Knowledge of word processing, presentation software, and spreadsheets
  • Excellent communications skills (written and verbal) required.
  • Must be extremely organized, detail oriented, and have initiative to follow through to completion.
  • Must be highly motivated, disciplined, and team oriented.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with all university constituents effectively, and diplomatically.
  • Able to balance multiple projects in stressful situations, while meeting deadlines and maintaining positive relations.
  • Hands-on knowledge/skill of database programs, spreadsheets.
