PBX Operator

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Answer and direct calls to the appropriate department and/or person; take messages electronically as needed.
• Scan and file patient related information electronically ensuring accessibility and maintaining a current patient record.
• Sort, retrieve and deliver all incoming and outgoing correspondence for internal customers, utilizing the master patient index or EMR for identifying all patient related correspondence.
• Maintain list of employees who are out on attendance board and page physicians and staff as directed; contact hospitals and the Physician’s Exchange with call schedule information and changes
• Communicate problems and act as a liaison to inform management and phone company of phone system problems; act as gate-keeper of the back entrance area.
• Perform miscellaneous clerical tasks as necessary.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• High school graduate or GED equivalent.
• 1 year PBX/multi-line phone experience, health care arena preferred
• Excellent telephone etiquette
• Interpersonal skills to interact effectively with internal and external customers
• Ability to work under pressure, prioritize and work independently
• Proficiency with Windows based applications
• Ability to speak clearly and in an easily understood manner
• Ability to actively listen and comprehend callers’ requests
