Main Function: To perform various and assorted tasks associated with the functions of instructional housekeeping. Tasks may include cleaning of surfaces, movement of furniture, bed making, trash handling, and other related duties as assigned
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Perform cleaning duties in assigned areas, such as patient rooms, nurses stations, examination and treatment rooms, public and patient lavatories, lounges, offices and other public and support areas of the hospital.
2. Sweep, high and low dust, dust mop and wet mop floors areas, stairways and elevators; spot clean and vacuum floors, rugs, carpets, and runners. Rotate runners in hallways, and entryways.
3. Strip, clean, and sanitize beds; make beds in designed areas.
4. Collect trash and refuse from work areas and place in designated pick up areas.
5. Clean, sanitize, and polish bath, lavatory, shower, and sink fixtures, and facilities, stock dispensers as necessary.
6. Dust, spot clean, sanitize, and hand shampoo furniture; lamp desk and floor lamps, clean and polish glass surfaces, woodwork, walls, windowsills, and other related areas.
7. Scrub bath and shower room tiles, woodwork, window frames and sills and other related surfaces.
8. Maintain equipment and materials needed to perform work in a clean and orderly condition.
9. Report needed repairs to immediate supervisor or Operation Manager
10. Notify immediate supervisor of supply needs.
11. Attend in-services and other required meetings.
12. Adhere to departmental policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance standards, safety, environmental and infection control practices.
13. Demonstrates the use of equipment in a safe and proper manner.
14. Demonstrates support and compliance with Maryland General Hospital’s mission.
15. Performs other duties as assigned.
Work Experience
Education: High School graduate or GED preferred.
Experience: 3 to 6 months institutional housekeeping experience preferred.
Contacts: Patients, visitors, and departmental employees
Physical Demands: Bending, stooping, kneeling standing and walking. Use of all limbs and extremities. Good eyesight. Lift 50-75 pounds
Working Conditions: Good. Generally but not limited to work indoors in well-lighted and ventilated areas.
Hazards: Exposure to concentrated and diluted cleaning chemicals, refuse containing shards, blood and human secretions, patient isolation environments.
