Position Summary
Provides leadership and strategic direction to drive optimization of capacity management and safe patient flow initiatives of all inpatient bed assignments for admissions and observation encounters (direct admissions, emergency department, and post anesthesia care), internal transfers, and discharges. Works collaboratively with nursing leaders, physician leaders, care coordination leaders, ancillary department leaders, and other Memorial Care campus and/or shared services leaders to ensure timely, efficient, safe, equitable, effective, and patient centered care. Retains responsibility and accountability over strategic direction for surge planning and emergency overcrowding policies and procedures.
Essential Functions
Leads all throughput and patient flow related activities including providing direct supervision, coaching, and performance management to assigned team members.
Partners with physicians on patient placement strategies and decisions in collaboration with campus Medical Leadership
Partners with Nursing (Inpatient units, ED, Care Coordination) and Ancillary Department Leadership on patient placement strategies and decisions in collaboration with Chief Nurse Executive and VP Associate Chief Nursing Officers.
Participates in quality, safety, and risk management initiatives.
Escalates throughput barriers for resolution to Sr. Leadership.
Leads performance improvement initiatives, chart reviews, and data collection.
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications/Work Experience:
Recent emergency department management experience: Preferred
Proven leadership, facilitative, and anticipatory/critical thinking skills: Preferred
Excellent communication and mediation skills: Preferred
Strong acumen for systems thinking and problem solving with a proven ability to work in complex environments: Preferred
Education/Licensure/Certification
Bachelors of Nursing: Required
Masters of Nursing or other related health field: Preferred
Current California Registered Nurse (RN) license: Required
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers: Required

- Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. In addition to base pay, there may be additional compensation available for this role, including but not limited to, shift differentials, extra shift incentives, and bonus opportunities. Qualifications/Work Experience:
