About The Role

The Director leads the strategy, design, and continuous improvement of training and learning content for jobseeker programs. This includes curriculum from career readiness to job search strategy, interviewing, networking, and U.S. workplace navigation. The content must be rigorous, culturally responsive, and accessible to adult learners with diverse professional backgrounds and varying English proficiency.

Human Resources

Reporting to the Chief of Programs and managing an Instructional Designer, this role partners with Programs leadership, Products & IT, Monitoring & Evaluation, and other teams. The Director needs a solid understanding of instructional design concepts to manage, guide, and evaluate the work of their direct report.

Key Responsibilities

  • Content Strategy & Development
  • Set and own the content roadmap for jobseeker trainings based on learner needs, program goals, and labor market trends.
  • Lead design, development, and continuous improvement of curriculum across the jobseeker journey (career readiness, job search strategy, resumes, personal branding, interviewing, networking, U.S. workplace culture).
  • Ensure all content is culturally responsive and accessible to immigrant and refugee learners.
  • Establish content standards, templates, style guidelines, and quality-review processes.
  • Regularly review and update training content to remain accurate and relevant to employer expectations.
  • Labor Market & Hiring Trends Awareness
  • Stay updated on job market trends, hiring demand, in-demand skills, and industry expectations.
  • Understand employer expectations and recruiter/hiring manager practices (e.g., new formats, assessment methods, screening practices).
  • Track how AI changes hiring (AI-driven screening, ATS tools, automated interviews) and update jobseeker content accordingly.
  • Instructional Design & Learning Experience
  • Apply adult learning principles and instructional design best practices for engaging, outcomes-driven learning.
  • Design across multiple modalities: live virtual workshops, self-paced e-learning, blended learning, facilitator guides, and job aids.
  • Oversee learning technologies, including LMS and content authoring tools.
  • Partner with data and evaluation teams to design assessment architectures that measure participant knowledge and readiness.
  • AI & Innovation
  • Leverage AI tools to develop, update, and scale learning content efficiently.
  • Ensure jobseekers are equipped to use AI tools effectively and responsibly in their job search (e.g., resume tailoring, interview preparation).
  • Champion experimentation and stay current on emerging AI tools for learning design and workforce development.
  • Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
  • Partner with Program leadership and frontline coaches to identify content gaps and learner needs.
  • Equip coaches and facilitators with materials, guides, and train-the-trainer support.
  • Gather and incorporate feedback from jobseekers, coaches, and program staff for content iteration.
  • Engage subject-matter experts and external partners to strengthen content quality.
  • Team Leadership & Management
  • Manage, coach, and develop the Instructional Designer with clear goals and professional growth.
  • Manage content-related vendors, contractors, or subject-matter experts as needed.
  • Contribute to Programs strategy and planning as a member of the broader Programs team.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in learning and development, content/curriculum development, education, or related field, including management/mentoring experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead content strategy and ensure high-quality, relevant learning materials.
  • Experience in workforce development, adult education, or designing learning for diverse, multilingual, or immigrant/refugee adult populations.
  • Solid working understanding of instructional design concepts and adult learning principles.
  • Familiarity with learning technologies (content authoring tools, LMS).
  • Demonstrated comfort using AI tools in content development or learning.
  • Strong project management skills with ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Salary Range

$125,000 - $135,000
