The Library Cataloging Specialist will create and maintain accurate bibliographic records that keep our catalog running smoothly and ensure library materials are easy to find. This work directly enhances the customer experience by making our collections accessible, discoverable, and reliable. Some additional responsibilities and qualifications include:
- Creates and updates bibliographic records for multiple types of materials; including media and monographic records of various formats;
- Assigns appropriate Dewey Decimal numbers for nonfiction materials and call numbers using other schemes as appropriate;
- Applies various local policies to bibliographic records while cataloging;
- Ensures authority records and subject headings are correct, and access points are accurate and adequate;
- Participates in cataloging projects and assists with catalog cleanup, making updates, and correcting errors as needed;
- Knowledge of RDA, AACRII, LC-PCC PSs, MARC, Dewey Decimal classification system, and LCSH;
- Ability to understand the needs of customers and connect them to the right resource or service at the right time;
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree required;
- One year of library experience required; cataloging experience preferred;
- Equivalent combination of technical training, education, and/or experience.
